Almost three quarters (73%) of all Dutch women have been sexually intimidated at some point in their lives;
• One in ten women have been raped at some point in their lives (FRA, 2014);
• 11% of all Dutch women have experienced sexual violence by a (former) partner;
• 12% of all Dutch women have been a victim of sexual violence by someone other than their partner.
Research by the Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek (CBS) shows that the vast majority of sexual offences are not reported to the police (9% in 2011).
If the perpetrator is an unknown person, the victim waits on average 10 days to report;
if the perpetrator is a known person, however, it takes an average of 8 months (National Rapporteur on Trafficking in Human Beings and Sexual Violence against Children, 2014).
Two in three girls (66 percent) and 3 in 10 boys (29 percent) aged 13 to 24 say they have been victims of some form of sexual violation in 2023.
4 percent of boys and 20 percent of girls indicate that they have sometimes been forced to perform sexual acts that they did not want.
More than half of the girls (54 percent) and a quarter of the boys (23 percent) have had to deal with physical sexual violations: from unwanted touching to all kinds of "sex" (intercourse?) against their will.
After physical sexual boundary crossing, verbal sexual boundary crossing will be the most common in 2023, with 49 percent of girls and 14 percent of boys having ever experienced this. This concerns annoying sexual comments (Rutgers & Soa Aids Nederland, 2024).
