1 Feb 1821 On 9 July 1818, Governor Macquarie laid the foundation stone of the second Female Factory, and after almost three years of construction by contractors William Watkins and Isaac Peyton, Chief Engineer Major George Druitt, and the labour of countless male convict stonemasons, 

1 Sept 1823 - 1823 Gaols Act goes into effect

1835 Prison Inspections Act needed to enforce it.

1837 First female prison - in the then British Empire (world?) opens at Grangegorman in Dubline after the efforts of the Hibernian Society of Penal Reform - visited by Elizabeth Fry in 1827.
